Shared spaces help to enhance a residents experience, whether that’s in student accommodation, purpose built build-to-rent, co-living or even hospitality venues. They encourage engagement and integration, helping individuals mould into their environment’s in emotional, physical and social ways.

The idea behind this study was to explore how a singular space can cater for multiple needs and multiple people. A balance therefore occurs between the fixed and physical elements, the bar, built-in stepped seating and services, such as toilets, with the flexible elements like furniture, planting and equipment. The design plays with the key notion of longevity and layering while evoking the five senses of the user. The space is designed for daytime activities like co-working, watching television, socialising and playing while the night-time activities can include performances, talks, movie nights and parties.
